offers insight into the major themes of Greek Patristic anthropology including topics on the fall of humanity, the causes of evil, the image of God in the human being. Nonna Verna Harrison brings together many of the writings of fourth century archbishop St. Basil the Great, and highlights the questions he posed in regards to the human condition. Also included are two homilies on the origin of humanity, one of St. Basil’s letters to Amphilochius of Iconium and excerpts from St Basil’s fatherly instructions (or Long Rules) to his ascetic communities. Ultimately, On the Human Condition is a handy introduction to understanding the principles of the Greek Fathers concerning humanity, which would later become standard doctrine in Eastern Orthodox theology.
